Help in using the Library

  • Library staff are very happy to help you learn how to use the library well. If you want help in finding information for assignments or for leisure reading, or you need help with using the Catalogue or any of the databases please ask at the Information Desk. It takes time to learn how to use all aspects of the Library. If you wish, you may make an appointment with one of the staff.

Arrangement of Library

  • The Library uses Library of Congress classification system for the nonfiction collections (as opposed to Dewey Decimal system used at Massey University and Palmerston North City Libraries).

Logging in to your Personal Page

  • Check when books, videos, magazines you have out are due back
  • Renew books etc. that you have out
  • Reserve books or videos that are on order or on loan to someone else
  • Send lists of references to your email address
  • Receive email notification when the latest issue of a particular periodical or a new book on a specific subject arrives

New books, periodicals, DVDs Videos

  • A display of new library purchases is put up on the display table near the Library entrance each Tuesday night. These are available for borrowing the following week and can be reserved.

Email list of new purchases

  • An email list of the newly purchased books, video's, DVDs, periodicals is sent each week to staff and students who have indictated that they wish to receive it - let the Librarian know if you would like to be added to the mailing list.

Databases

  • The Library subscribes to several online databases and indexes.

Interloans

  • The Library is a member of the New Zealand Interloan Management System. At present there is no charge for interloans. However, as it costs us to interloan we ask that you first check for suitable items in the IPC Library and the subscribed databases, and limit your interloan requests to essential items.

Purchases for Personal use

  • The Library is not able to purchase books on behalf of staff or students for their private collections.
