Class Teaching in the Library

  • Teaching staff are most welcome to use the library facilities for class lessons, group lessons and one-to-one tutoring in the Library. We ask that teaching staff use the Information Desk end (the lounge area) or the Tutorial Rooms for these purposes. The far end (near the main book collection) is a quiet study area for students.

Desk Reserves

  • To put books, journals or videos "on reserve" for your classes to use, please fill in the mauve form (held in the basket on the Library Information Desk). Desk Reserves are held behind the desk and issued to students for use in the Library or on overnight loan.

  • (See also 'Information About'..... Services / Desk reserves)

New Books, periodicals, DVDs Videos

  • A display of new library purchases is put up on the display table near the Library entrance each Tuesday night. These are available for borrowing the following week and can be reserved.

Email list of new purchases

  • An email list of the newly purchased books, videos, DVDs, periodicals is sent each week to staff who have indicated that they wish to receive it - let the Librarian know if you want to be added to the mailing list.

Interloans

  • The Library is a member of the New Zealand Interloan Management System.

Class Sets

  • Class Sets of readers are held behind the Information Desk. Teaching staff should distribute the Reader to the student in the Library with directions to have it issued directly to the student rather than having the set issued on the their own library record.

Look online at newly published books in your subject area

  • You can have new book information in your subject area delivered to your own computer from our major supplier of academic books. The information you receive usually includes the table of contents of the book. If you think the book should be purchased, it's merely a matter of pushing the recommendation button and it is sent to the Library to consider purchase. Contact the Librarian if you would like to use this.

Purchases for personal use

  • The Library is not able to purchase books on behalf of staff or students for their private collections.

Displays

  • Wall display space is available in the photocopier and tutorial rooms. Contact Library staff. Suggestions of a theme display of books are welcomed.

Locating resources for teachers

  • Library staff are happy to select books at an appropriate level on a particular subject or theme for your classes. These can then be made available in the library for students to make their selection. Please contact the Librarian.
